Skills That Last A Lifetime

The Ryan Pyles Aquatic Foundation was created in order to spread awareness and education towards the prevention of pediatric drowning. Since its establishment, survival swim lessons have been taught through RPAF to thousands of children in Atlanta, and then the Nashville areas. Now, the construction of Ryan’s Swim Academy gets RPAF ever closer to the goal. Using a step by step method individualized to each student, every child can learn not only to keep themselves safe in water, but to carry those lessons, skills and confidence throughout their lifetime.

According to statistics from the CDC, there are over 10,000 drowning incidents in a given year. A drowning incident is defined by respiration interruption/impairment due to submersion or immersion in water. A drowning is not always fatal, and can cause no major injuries or severe, life threatening injuries or even death. For children under the age of 18, 1 in 7 hospitalizations for a drowning incident result in death and fatal drownings account for the number one cause of death in children ages 1-4.

No one should have to lose their child to senseless, accidental drowning. Thankfully, there is good news as well. This age group, while at the highest risk of drowning, also happens to be the best age range to begin their survival swimming adventure. Using the natural mechanics of the body, a child’s incredible ability to absorb and learn information and a personal, attentive method of instruction, every child has the potential to become a lifelong swimmer. A nationally recognized system of aquatic survival instruction is applied for students beginning with RPAF for a child to learn how to swim and float in the water independently, without the use of flotation devices. Mastering these skills will not only build their confidence but provide a foundation of safety to move forward with any level of swimming in the future.

When we enrolled our 3 year old we expected that our son would learn to safely navigate water. He got those tools and so much more. Kennette & Russ confidently took our fearful boy and showed him he had the strength to overcome it. Three years later, Remy still benefits from what he learned in… Continue reading Sharon Davis

  1. I was optimistic about the Swim Academy from a friends’ experience, but they exceeded our expectations wildly. I’ve referred everyone I know with children to the Pyles. Our 5 year old, 3.5 year old, and 18 month old have all completed the program, and our newborn will enroll once he’s eligible. The skills our kids developed were dramatic and transformative. I cannot recommend this program any more highly.
